September Sew-A-Long Part 2!

As I shared in Wednesday night’s email, this time around we’re having TWO patterns for this month’s Sew-A-Long! The first is the awesome Mama Chloe Skirt from Made for Mermaids (which is FREE) and you can read all about it here. The second, and very eagerly awaited by lots of you, is ……
Drumroll please…..for the
Sparkle & Roar
Roarsome Dungarees!
This is a brand spanking new pattern (only released on the 1st September!) and is a classic, slim fitting and cloth nappy friendly dungarees PDF pattern. It has a great size range and fits from Tiny Baby/ Premature up to Age 5. One of my favourite things about it is the number of variations you get with the pattern, it has long or short legs, pockets, facing or binding top trim and even an option for leg snaps for those easy nappy changes!
This pattern is the first Sewing Pattern to be released by Tanya at Sparkle & Roar, which is also a very popular children’s clothing brand. It has been tested and put through it’s paces by a team of sewists – including beginners, professional seamstresses and everyone in between.
I was lucky enough to be involved in the testing of the pattern – it was my first ever time I’d sewn dungarees and was admittedly apprehensive about the challenge! However there was absolutely no need to be, the pattern comes with excellent instructions – they’re clear and include great photos which are easy to follow. This makes it an excellent pattern for even those new to sewing but it has a great range of options for those who are more experienced and fancy a new challenge.
You can download the pattern from the Sparkle& Roar website and to celebrate it’s launch there is a discount code available which can be found in the pinned post in Sparkle& Roar Pattern Group on Facebook. The usual price for the pattern will be £8.50 but with the discount code you’ll be able to purchase it for just £6.00! An absolute bargain.
To sew this project you will need…..
• Knit Fabric with at least 25% stretch for the main dungarees and the facing (from half a metre for the Prem size – plus additional for pockets/facing to just over a metre 110cm for the 4-5years plus additional for pockets/facing)
• Snaps for the Dungaree tabs and optional leg legs (and applicator tool)
• Co-ordinating Thread
• Sewing Clips or Pins
• Scissors or Rotary Cutter/Mat
• Needles/Sewing Machine/Overlocker
• Printer
• Glue/Tape to assemble the pattern
That’s it, a pretty small list and hopefully everything is easy for you to get hold of. You can find all of the haberdashery in the Shop section of our website. There are lots of places you can find suitable fabric (and I’d love to hear if you have any recommendations!) but don’t forget you can find a discount code to use at Caboodle Textiles if you join our Sewing Room group on Facebook. They have a great range of knit fabrics, including some fabric solid coloured cotton lycra.
What Next?
This time around there wont be step by step photos being added automatically for each of the Sew-A-Long projects, the instructions for both of the patterns chosen are very detailed and clear. If you do get stuck, please shout up – drop me an email to Jennifer@littletshaberdashery.
There is no deadline for completing the projects, do them at your own pace! Make one or make twenty, whatever you want to do! I’ll be sharing photos of my completed projects on Facebook, Instagram, and of course, on the blog and I’d love to see yours too. The more the better in-fact.
I hope you’re all pleased with the pattern choice and are all as excited as I am about a new sewing challenge. Any questions, drop me an email or a message – I promise I’ll reply and I am actually quite friendly to chat with.
Until then, Happy Sewing!
